REPORT : Ryan Tatar Exhibition at Ron Herman Tusjido
Atmosphere is happy to announce about the photo exhibition which will be held at Ron Herman Tsujido Store. Main feature of the exhibition is photographer and surfer Ryan Tatar`s work. His photography often described as “Modern California Cool meets Vintage Hawaiian”. His melancholic yet beautiful photography catches eyes of people from world wide. Please make sure you will come down for the show!

この度、辻堂のRon Hermanにて行われる写真エキシビジョンの情報をお知らせいたします。今回、エキシビジョンではサンフランシスコをベースに活躍する写真家でありサーファーである Ryan Tatar(ライアン・テーター)。彼の作品はしばしば“クールでモダンなカルフォルニアにヴィンテージのハワイアンが混じった様”と敬称されます。彼のメランコリックでありながら美しい写真は世界中の人々の目にとまっています。
エキシビジョンは、4月2日から5月31日まで行われます。

Ryan Tatar（ライアン・テーター）
カリフォルニア・サンフランシスコを拠点とするフォトグラファーであり、サーファー。
Sea-Tribesというタイトルで近年撮り続けているフォト・エッセイシリーズは、Ryanが日々“海や、その表面の表情、様々なサーファー達の群れ、海岸沿いの景色“などを映しています。ここ数年彼が撮り続けている写真の全てはフィルムで撮影されており、彼の写真はサーフ界を始めとして国内外の人々からの注目を集めています。
彼の写真はSurfer`s Path, Esquire, Complex,日本のBLUE MagazineやフランスのDesillusionのような雑誌に取り上げられています。また、TCSSやRake Surfboardのようなブランドからユニクロ、H＆M、Element、O`neill、PacSunやBillabongといった大きなブランドからも多数引き合いがあります。
Ryanはアメリカの五大湖のミシガン州で育ちです。小さい頃に家族で海や山へ旅行に出掛けた際、いつか海の近くに住んでみたいと思い、東海岸へと移り住み、現在ではカリフォルニアを拠点に活動しています。以来、サーフ・カルチャーやそこに開かれている道が自分の作品創りや人生において、多大な影響となり活動の主たるものになっています。
Ryanの作品は、“クールでモダンなカルフォルニアにヴィンテージのハワイアンが混じった様”だと、コラボレーションを行った人々は口を揃えて言います。サーフカルチャーを見つめる彼の独特な視点は、フィルムという媒体を通してより強調され、今の時代に撮られた写真ではなく1950年から1960年代の写真を思わせます。大概撮影する時は一人で行うのですが、地元のサーファーや偶然通りがかった人、サーフ界で尊敬されるサイラス・サットン、マイケル・ジュノ、トーマス・キャンベルのような人々など、彼が興味を引いた人々と作品作りも行います。
Ryan Tatar is a photographer and surfer currently based in San Francisco, California.His main body of work, entitled Sea-Tribes, is an ongoing photo essay “inspired by the ocean and marine layer… documenting various pods of eclectic surfers and coastal landscapes.” His photographs, all shot on
film the past several years, have brought him international attention inside and outside of
the surf world. His work and photographs have been mentioned or featured by
magazines like the Surfer’s Path, Esquire, Complex, Blue Japan, and Desillusion
France. He has collaborated with both indie labels like The Critical Slide Society and Rake
surfboards, to larger clients such as Uniqlo, H&M, O’Neill, PacSun, and Billabong.
Ryan grew up in the great lake state of Michigan in the heartland of the USA.
Family summer trips to the mountains or the sea inspired him to one day live by the
ocean. Eventually moving to the east coast and then to California, surf culture and the
open road has since inspired his life and is his principal subject matter.
“Modern California Cool meets Vintage Hawaiian” was one description used to
describe Ryan’s work during a recent collaboration. His unique view of surf
culture, augmented and enriched by the film medium, seems to fit more in the 1950s or
1960s at times rather than the current day. But his work is not fairly described as retro.
Although preferring to shoot and surf alone most times, he has worked with anyone that
interests him… shooting local surfers, unnamed passers-by, and respected surf
world icons like Cyrus Sutton, Michel Junod, and Thomas Campbell.
