1. Please introduce yourself to us.
I’m Leslie David, a French independant art director, graphic design, illustrator living in Paris.

2. Please tell us about your latest activities.
Since few months I’ve been working closely with Kitsuné on prints and many other projects, I love foxes and I love the brand, I’m really happy about this collaboration.
There’s many other nice ongoing projects right now, a restaurant identity, a collaboration with the cute French brand Le Mont St Michel, some record covers, no time to be bored!

3.When / Why did you start your creative activities?
Quite early! My mum was an illustrator and my dad was an editor, now they are both photographers. I grew up in a house full of pencils, water colors and when I was bored to distract me my mum was asking me to reinterpret her illustrations, I would draw crazy flowers and weird animals.

4. What kind of things do you get inspirations from for your art making?
Often it comes from errors or things I’ve experimented on a previous project, it’s like a chain of creativity, a project is nourishing another. Of course I’m influenced by art, all kind, I’m especially into Optical art, Psychedelic Art, but I also love more delicate things like the work of Cy Tomwbly or David Hockney’s drawings.

5. We are aware about the fact that you are mother as well as working as an artist. Are you interested in doing work for children related matter?
Yes of course! Actually I’ve already started. With Pedro Winter and friends, we are working on a music festival for kids, taking place in Paris in 2015. I’m working on the art direction but also on everything else, it’s a long process but it’s super exciting.

6. Do you have any media that you want to work in the future such as sculpture, fashion or digital media.
I just did a collection of porcelain plates for TH Manufacture, a new design editor. I really like decoration and I’d love to create patterns, objects and identity for decoration brands. Also I recently did the identity for a new Parisian restaurant called Hobbes, I love food and I wanted to work on a restaurant for so long!

7. What is the most impressive art piece, design or scene you have ever seen?
I can’t really consider it as art but recently I walked totally randomly in the art of the brick exhibition in New-York, many masterpieces made out of Lego bricks, really stupid but fun to see La Joconde or The Adolfinis in Legos…
Being serious, almost ten years ago I saw a retrospective of David Hockney’s photography and drawings and I think this exhibition has changed my life, his drawing portraits are stunning.

8. You work in many different ways, drawing, painting and art direction. Which do you think suite to your character most?
I don’t like doing always the same things, so what suites me the best is to do everything in the same time, and often, on the same day.

9. Please tell us the 3 most important points in the process of making your artwork or about your artwork themselves.
- lot of sleep
- lot of light
- a quiet atmosphere

10. Please show us your studio!
I’m sharing an office with friends. It’s nice and fun but I’m starting to feel a bit claustrophobic, I’m in a very small room, look at this wall behind me… Everyday I dream about a big and bright studio space!
